Happy New Year!  You may ask yourself, “How can I say that?”  After all, we are experiencing an uptick in positive COVID-19 cases, we witnessed a riot at the United States Capital and schools are still struggling to bring students back full time and address the learning gaps that this pandemic continues to widen.

My response is this…it’s too easy to point out the negatives.  We need to believe in the year of possibilities.  In 2021, vaccines are already starting to get pushed out, the nation will begin to heal and, by the time this school year is over, we will witness in-person learning opportunities increase.  It is only appropriate, as we remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr this month, that his words help us focus on this journey towards positive possibilities.  “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” I hope that we, as our nation still struggles with bigotry and hate, do not forget the strong message that we received so long ago.  I hope that as we experience stumbling blocks with the vaccine rollout, we stay patient.  And I hope that communities continue to work closely with schools to address our children’s academic, social and emotional needs so their futures are not defined by a pandemic.  The possibilities for a great year are endless!

These are exciting times as we continue to plan to bring students back into the nest.  Become informed about Monmouth happenings by checking out our website (monmouthregional.net), Facebook page or following us on Twitter at: @MonRegHS.  Until the next edition of The Today Paper Mobile...
